The Canadians spent around C $ 8 bn on renovating their homes in the second quarter of 2005, which is 8.5 per cent more than during the same period last year. According to figures from Statistics Canada, spending on residential development has risen by 7.5 per cent in the first six months of 2005. The DIY store operators have benefited from this as well. Rona reports a profit increase of more than 30 per cent for the second quarter, and Canadian Tire has notched up more than 14 per cent.
