Information from the Canadian DIY industry service Hardlines indicates that the Canadian DIY market grew in 2004 by 8.9 per cent to $ 34.8 mio, thus continuing the growth rates of previous years: in 2003 the segment grew by 8.2 per cent and in 2002 by as much as 8.8 per cent, figures from the latest edition of Hardlines’ Quarterly Report show. The building supplies trade accounted for the biggest share of the market last year at 47.6 per cent, followed by “big box” stores with 21.1 per cent.
