The French DIY market saw 4.55 per cent growth to € 18.35 bn in 2004, according to the latest study from Unibal. However, in terms of their individual performance the different sales channels varied greatly. Whereas the DIY stores and builders' merchants recorded above-average sales growth of 6 per cent, the sales figures for supermarkets and traditional retailers went down (-4.5 per cent and –4.5 per cent respectively). The largest market share was claimed by the DIY stores at 66.2 per cent, followed by builders' merchants at 21.8 per cent, the supermarkets (7.3 per cent) and traditional retailers (4.7 per cent)
