Austrians spontaneously recognise almost 3 different DIY retailers, and with prompting can recognise over twice as many (6.7) on average. A Markant survey reveals that the recognition factor has increased considerably when compared with results from 2003. At that time every Austrian was able to name just over 2 different DIY retailers, and 6 on average when prompted. The best-known DIY retailer is Baumax: 75 per cent of all Austrians recognise the name unprompted (+ 6 per cent over 2003), rising to 96 per cent with prompting. Obi enjoys over 50 per cent unprompted recognition (+ 8 per cent over 2003) and 92 per cent prompted. Bauhaus, too, scores over 90 per cent prompted customer recognition, and takes third place in terms of unprompted customer recognition at 41 per cent (+ 5 per cent).
