The Chinese retail trade is experiencing sustained growth

A rapid change from the traditional type of shopkeeping to modern sales outlets is evident in China. A survey by AC Nielsen reveals that the number of modern trading companies grew by 35 per cent in 2004. Sales of fast-selling consumer goods increased by 21 per cent in 2004 over the previous year to CNY 13 bn (€ 1.2 bn), which is two thirds of the total national amount.
