Praktiker intends to open its first DIY store in Sofia in mid-2004
Praktiker intends to open its first DIY store in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, in mid-2004. The company aims to achieve market leadership in this country in the medium term. As Michael Arnold, a member of the Praktiker board, sums up the motives behind the recent activities abroad, “For Praktiker, Bulgaria with its population in excess of eight million and high growth potential closes the gap between Greece, Romania and Turkey, where we are already market leaders.”
Head of the new national company will be Michael Trapp, who was previously country manager in Poland. His successor in Poland is Franz Ring.
Praktiker is not the first foreign DIY group to become involved in Bulgaria. Mr. Bricolage has a total of three outlets here (11 205 m²), two of which are located in the capital with its 1.2 mio inhabitants.
