The American retail chain Sears recorded a 1.3 per cent decline in sales for May in comparison with the same month last year, or 1.9 per cent in like-for-like terms. However, commenting on the figures, Chief Executive Officer Alan J. Lacy noted that the garden section by contrast exceeded expectations. At a total of US $ 8.323 bn (€ 7.034 bn) for the first five months of the year, overall sales remained 4.7 per cent down on the previous year’s figures, or 5.5 per cent like-for-like.
