DIY stores in Japan are shifting their emphasis towards trade customers, home improvement and building materials

Certain DIY stores in Japan are again becoming more orientated towards trade customers and the home improvement market. The Japan DIY Industry Association observes that this is being accompanied by a trend towards shifting the main emphasis of the range from soft DIY products to building materials, plumbing and kitchens. The association puts a figure of US $ 30 bn (€ 27 bn) on the sector’s volume of retail sales.
The Japan DIY Show will in future be held only once a year. Since the first fair was held in 1978, some years have seen the staging of two such events. The next date is 29 to 31 August 2003 in Tokyo. The most recent fair recorded the attendance of more than 200 000 visitors, of whom 40 000 were trade visitors, and 498 exhibitors.
