Huis Clos: Linking Sartre and service

13.02.2003

The French like wordplay, draught-proof windows and the specialist with currently more than 100 outlets

In 2002 the French Huis Clos chain increased sales on a like-for-like basis by 20.5 per cent to € 101.7 mio. The company has three facilities producing PVC windows, doors and shutters, which it then distributes through its own network of branches to consumers, especially within the renovating segment. Following the opening of 22 new outlets last year, this specialist supplier is now represented by 102 stores throughout France, except for the eastern parts of the country. Among its special services, this chain with the suggestive name (“behind closed doors”), which also has a literary connotation (as the title of a play by Jean-Paul Sartre), offers customised solutions and installation over holiday periods.
