The German Marktkauf chain has opened a first store in Russia, the company’s largest outlet that is expected soon to become its highest-volume one as well

Today, 6 February, marks the opening by the German Marktkauf retail group of its first shopping centre in Moscow. The Marktkauf Center consists of a DIY and garden centre around 12 400 m² in size (including a partly covered outside area of 3 300 m²), a hypermarket of 8 600 m², and a 2 500 m² mall containing 14 specialist shops and service providers. This makes it the group’s largest retail centre anywhere and the declared aim is for it to become the highest-volume one as well in the foreseeable future. The company is already reckoning with sales of € 50 mio for the current year. A good quarter of this figure is expected to be contributed by the DIY superstore and garden centre. AVA/Marktkauf is planning to build between five and ten new stores in the greater Moscow area within the foreseeable future.
