Market leader still going strong

B&Q now lays claim to almost one quarter of the UK’s DIY market

The recently completed year 2002 saw B&Q further extend its market leadership, increasing its share of the British market to almost one quarter. According to data collated by market researchers Verdict Research, Homebase and Focus Wickes take almost equal shares of nearly another quarter of the overall market between them. The gains in market share at the top end of the industry’s league table have been made at the expense of smaller retailers, who have continuously lost out over recent years, so that they now account for slightly more than half of the DIY sales in the UK.
You can find a breakdown of shares in the DIY market since 1997 under the Market data heading in DIYglobal (v. Other articles on this topic).
