B&Q declares support for FSC

B&Q has once more spoken out forcefully in favour of FSC timber certification. Alan Knight, head of social responsibility, writes that the company regards FSC as the system “which best meets our current needs”. Cited as advantages are the simplicity of one single label, the high audit standards and the support given by non-governmental environmental organisations (NGOs). Nevertheless, the UK DIY chain emphasises its demand for greater attention to the customer’s viewpoint. “We buy wood and sell wood products, not forests, and want to see certification schemes demonstrate much greater awareness of the needs of retailers.”
