In their catchment areas the stores belonging to Öbau achieve the greatest degree of recognition ahead of their competitors. This emerges from a survey of the marketing research institute A. C. Nielsen, which investigated the prompted awareness level. In telephone interviews the respondent was asked: “I am going to read out to you the names of a number of DIY stores and builders’ merchants, and you are to tell me which of them you recognise by name.” Following are the results of the survey:
