DIY retailers strong in the garden sector

The overall volume of the “green” market in France has declined slightly – but not for the DIY stores

The garden market in France has shrunk by one per cent in the last year compared with 2000. The market volume amounted to 5.466 billion euro, according to figures published by the Promojardin association. However, DIY stores increased their garden sales by 0.7 per cent to 1.151 billion euro, this sales channel accounting for a market share of 21 per cent. The DIY trade also fared better than the market as a whole in a five-year comparison. Compared with overall growth of three per cent in France, DIY store operators increased their “green” sales by four per cent.
