Rona finds itself with a 13 per cent market share

16.09.2002

Sales rose by nine per cent like-for-like in the first six months of 2002

Rona, the cooperative and franchise chain, recorded a net turnover of CDN $ 1.162 bn (€ 757 mio) during the first six months of 2002. The increase of 58.7 per cent over the same period in the previous year is due first and foremost to the acquisition of Revy Home Centres Inc. in Ontario and the west of the country in June 2001. However, the company claims to have achieved an increase of nine per cent in like-for-like terms as well. As Pierre Charron, Vice President Hardware Purchasing, reported at an event held during this year’s Chicago National Hardware Show, Rona claims a market share of 13 per cent in Canada. In Quebec, where the Rona DIY stores achieved sales growth of 15 per cent in the first six months, the group is market leader with a share of 35 per cent. Only one quarter of products are sold through the mass-marketing formats in Canada.
