Each year Germans spend an average of € 445 on do-it-yourself products. This makes them European leaders in the field. They are followed by the citizens of Finland, Denmark and Luxembourg. Fifth place goes to the British with a spend of € 329 per head, according to the latest study of the European DIY market by Verdict, the UK market research company. It also concludes that the market volume has grown by 70.7 per cent within ten years, amounting to approx. € 103.3 bn in 2001. Of this total 62.7 per cent remained in the tills of the DIY stores and builders’ merchants.
