Leroy Merlin is rated by consumers as the best DIY chain in France, Italy and Spain. Customers are particularly impressed by the service and atmosphere in stores belonging to the chain, which is part of the French retailer Groupe Adeo. These were the findings of the European Home Improvement Monitor of market research company USP, which also looked at the criteria of accessibility, price and quality.
The runners-up in the survey were Castorama (Kingfisher) in France, Brico OK in Italy and Aki – also part of Groupe Adeo – in Spain. Bricorama in France, Obi in Italy and Bricomaster in Spain fared less well. Although Brico Dépôt fell below the average in France, it received good marks for its pricing policy.

The high values for the chain’s service and shopping environment afforded it a substantial competitive advantage, according to the market researchers.
A general observation by the market researchers was that Italian customers gave better ratings on the whole than respondents in France and Spain. They conclude from this that DIY stores in Italy have a better image. In particular, service was rated much better in Italy than in the other countries.
