Graham Wilson, the inventor of the Garden Groom Safety Hedge Trimmer, identified the problems people face when using conventional electric hedge clippers. These include the major dangers of personal injury and of accidentally cutting the mains cable on the one hand, and the problem of the great quantity of hedge clippings, part of which tends to be left in the hedge.
The Garden Groom is all set to change this. Graham developed the product in collaboration with DCA Design International, a UK-based company, over a number of years. The end result is a stylish hedge trimmer that not only cuts, shreds and deposits waste into its collection unit, but also has a concealed blade that virtually eliminates the possibility of personal injuries. The producers are consequently confident that their brainchild will succeed in overcoming consumers’ resistance to working with hedge trimmers. What is more, the patented handle arrangement means that it is only possible to activate the trimmer by using two hands.
Graham Wilson and his business partner Tony Rolfe, managing director of Garden Groom, decided to select International Power Tools of Hong Kong as their manufacturing partner. This is the company that has now brought the product through from design stage to final manufacturing and field-testing. In addition, a joint venture company has been set up to market and sell the product around the world.
The hedge trimmer is not intended to be the only product of its kind. Garden Groom and International Power Tools are currently working on producing a whole family of related products, including a hand-held mini groom, a cordless groom and a professional petrol-driven version.
The Garden Groom Safety Hedge Trimmer, which has been on the market since this summer, is powered by a 550 W electric motor and has a concealed, 30 cm blade that rotates at 2 500 rpm. The machine is simple to use and is also suitable for left-handed operators.
The shredder function reduces the clippings in volume by a ratio of 10:1, making it especially useful when cutting thorny hedges. It makes disposal simple and ensures that no clippings are left behind in the hedge. The machine is the winner of many prestigious government awards for safety and innovation, as well as a number of international design awards.
The new Garden Groom Safety Hedge Trimmer is easy to use and shreds the clippings instantly.
