At this year’s Cologne Hardware Fair the American company introduced a Plunge Router attachment, a Flex Shaft attachment and a Straight Edge Guide.
“Roto Zip is looking to create a complete power tool system for the value-conscious do-it-yourselfer,” said Carol Ramsden, product manager for Roto Zip UK at Spennymoor, England, where the company has its European headquarters.
The Plunge Router attachment converts the Spiral Saw into a plunge router featuring a patented handle and a self-locking plunge mechanism to make routing simple. Other features include a cast metal base guide, comfort grip handle, adjustable plunge depth with incremental stops and a removable dust collection system.
Another new introduction is the Flex Shaft attachment, which turns the Spiral Saw into a sanding, grinding, polishing, carving and detailing power tool. Also new is the Straight Edge Guide, which allows the user to create accurate straight lines. The flexible attachment system works with both the Universal Base Guide as well as the new Plunge Router attachment.
“Although the Spiral Saw could do almost the same jobs as jigsaws, many users found it challenging to cut straight lines,” explained Ramsden. “We’ve eliminated this problem with our new Straight Edge Guide.
Launched last year in Europe, the Spiral Saw uses a high-speed revolving bit instead of jagged teeth to plunge into the material and slice clean freehand cuts in any direction without needing to drill pilot holes. The patented cutting bit allows both professionals and DIYers to make precise cuts through practically any building material up to 25 mm thick, including MDF, laminate flooring, wood, fibreglass, plaster board, ceramic tiles and aluminium.
The Roto Zip Corporation was established in the United States in 1974 and expanded its activities into Europe with the acquisition of Macford Products Ltd, the manufacturers of Minicraft tools. Roto Zip claims to have invented the first drywall cutout tool, originally designed to speed up the process of cutting out holes for electrical boxes, windows and doors.
The combination tool includes cutting, polishing and grinding attachments.
