German DIY sales continue to stabilise in September

The sales situation in the German DIY sector appears to have stabilised further in September. This conclusion is supported by the latest figures from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the retail trade in metal goods, paints and coatings, and building and DIY supplies.

According to the provisional statistics, the sector’s turnover was up by 2.7 per cent in nominal terms and 1.2 per cent in real terms compared with September 2025. This makes the third quarter the only quarter this year to show a positive real growth rate, at 1.1 per cent. In nominal terms, cumulative sector turnover was 2.4 per cent higher than the corresponding figure for the previous year.
