Bauhaus, the German DIY market leader, also intends to take over a number of sites from Hellweg and Baywa Bau & Garten. The company has confirmed the acquisition of up to seven branches from the two retail divisions of the insolvent Hellweg Group. The takeover is due to take place on 1 December 2026. Following refurbishment and modernisation work, the sites are set to reopen as Bauhaus stores in spring 2027.
According to Bauhaus, it was awarded the contract for all the targeted sites as part of the tender process. Subject to competition law approval and the acceptance of the insolvency plan, Bauhaus intends to take over the six Hellweg sites in Beckum, Dahlwitz-Hoppegarten, Dortmund-Hacheney, Essen-Rellinghausen, Iserlohn and Potsdam, as well as the Baywa Bau & Garten site in Backnang.
