The Italian floriculture sector and the tree nursery industry continue to grow, as shown by an analysis carried out by Myplant & Garden, an international trade fair for the green sector. Between 2024 and 2025, the number of businesses across the entire supply chain – production, processing and retail – rose by 11.8 per cent, whilst the number of employees grew by 13.6 per cent.

In 2023, 29,000 agricultural businesses cultivated around 39,000 hectares. Compared with 2010, there has been a slight decline in the area under cultivation; however, this has been offset by an increase in the number of businesses – resulting in a reduction in the average holding size.

At a regional level, Tuscany ranks first in terms of both the number of businesses and the area under cultivation, whilst Emilia-Romagna stands out for having the highest employment intensity.
