According to preliminary figures from the Statistischen Bundesamt (German Federal Statistical Office, Destatis), calendar- and seasonally-adjusted sales in the German DIY sector in September 2025 were 0.3 per cent lower in real terms than in the same month of the previous year. In nominal terms, there was an increase of 0.4 per cent. This means that the change is not as strong as in the previous month, when a real decline of 4.8 per cent and a nominal decline of 3.9 per cent compared with the same period of the previous year were reported.

The situation is similar for garden centre sales: After a significant decline in August, the gardening and pet trade recorded at least nominal growth of 1.5 per cent in September 2025 compared with the same month last year. In real terms, this corresponds to a slight decline of 0.1 per cent.
