The DIY store group Homemate from Malta is a new member of the international DIY store association Edra/Ghin. The company operates five stores in the island nation, namely in Mrieħel, Żejtun, Mosta, Sliema (The Point) and Kalkara (Shoreline Mall).
Homemate opened its first store in Mrieħel in 1998. The 4,000 m² sales area is spread on two floors. The four other Homemate locations have been added in the past two years. This brings the total sales area of the DIY chain to 12,000 m². The company also operates an online shop. In addition to home improvement and gardening items, the product range also includes other non-food categories such as pet products, furniture, computer accessories, toys, stationery, lingerie and fashion accessories.
Homemate is a subsidiary of Alf. Mizzi & Sons Ltd. Alf. This company was founded in 1915 by Alfred Mizzi at the age of 22, when he began working as a commission agent from his father's residence in Malta. The group now employs more than 1,800 people and operates in Romania, Libya, Croatia, Italy and Cyprus. Homemate's general manager is Michel Micallef.
With the addition of Homemate, Edra/Ghin now has 232 home improvement retailers in 79 countries.
