The younger generation's consumption habits are transforming the home improvement industry, the country head of Mr. DIY Turkey reportedly said. In an interview published by Pazarlama Turkiye which was translated to English, Dilara Neyişçi Çağlı, who is also the chief operating officer of the Turkish operations of Mr. DIY, is quoted as saying that the active participation of Generation Z - those born from 1997 - has changed the dynamics of the sector.

"The younger generation is an audience that loves research, is knowledgeable, pragmatic, wants immediate realisation of their wishes, is very sensitive to environmental and social issues, and seeks increased performance. Trends are also shaped here," she is quoted as saying.

In addition, recent developments that have made people spend more time at home also contributed to this shift in the industry, as interest in home activities and hobbies have risen, she noted, adding that Mr. DIY Turkey keeps up with the changes.

The COO said that the company sees a close relationship between social media and store shopping, being "one of the first stores that come to the mind of social media users in this area". She added, however, that while there are plans to set up e-commerce in Turkey, this is not going to happen soon, as focus is kept on store operations for now.

Mr. DIY Turkey is owned by Malaysian home improvement giant Mr. DIY., established in 2005, and the retailer now has 21 stores in the country.
