The joining of two additional companies is pending at the European DIY association Edra and its Global Home Improvement Network (Ghin). General secretary John Herbert has announced Steinbuild from South Africa and Megatek from Albania as potential new members.
Steinbuild is the Southern African operations building material division of Steinhoff International. Steinbuild's retail activities include 104 locations in South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland and Botswana. Buco Hardware and Buildware is one of the company's retail brands. The South African parent company Steinhoff International Holdings, which has attracted attention in recent months with an accounting scandal, is active in the European furniture trade, for example with chains such as Poco in Germany, Conforama in France and up to now, Kika/Leiner in Austria, which has now been sold.
Megatek, the Albanian trading company which was founded in 2009, is considered the only hypermarket in Albania in the DIY market. It is also active in the wholesale segment as well as retailing.
