Rising costs are causing Chinese suppliers to increase their export prices

Chinese suppliers intend to increase their export prices in the next twelve months. Seventy per cent of the manufacturers questioned by Global Sources for their China Supplier Survey are planning to introduce higher selling prices. Fifty-two per cent of respondents see ten per cent as the maximum leeway for such an increase because of the fierce competition. Crucial to this development are the increased price of metal and plastic, higher labour costs and the possible upward revaluation of the yen, explains Michael Kleist, General Manager Content Development at Global Sources.
