The DIY stores of the German AVA group achieve a slight increase after nine months

The German AVA AG, which is 83.23 per cent owned by the Edeka group that operates principally in the food retailing industry, recorded sales of € 791.6 mio in its DIY division over the first three quarters of the current year. That is 0.8 per cent more than in the same period last year. A deficit of 1.1 per cent remains in like-for-like terms for the DIY stores, which mainly operate under the Marktkauf banner.
According to information issued by the group, its Russian subsidiary Marktkauf Rus is positioned well above target with the retail centre that opened in Moscow in February 2003, which also includes a DIY store. The turnover here amounted to € 54.4 mio. Growth rates on a monthly basis come to between 25 and 30 per cent. The group intends to open another hypermarket with DIY store in Moscow in each of the next two years, 2005 and 2006.
