Growth for Praktiker in Germany and the East

Overall sales moved up by 9.9 per cent in the third quarter

The German DIY retailer Praktiker increased sales by 9.9 per cent between July and September, achieving net sales at retail of € 749.6 mio. This would mean an increase of 10.2 per cent after currency adjustment. The sales figures on the domestic market went up by 8.6 per cent to € 553.5 mio, “on the basis of an aggressive pricing policy”, as the situation was expressed in the quarterly report of the parent company, Metro. Growth in like-for-like terms amounted to 9.4 per cent.
Whereas sales in Austria and Luxembourg dropped by 0.3 per cent to € 15.5 mio, Praktiker recorded a 15.4 per cent spurt in eastern Europe (16.5 per cent after currency adjustment). Here the DIY retail chain realised € 180.6 mio. However, that is only 2.1 per cent more than the same period last year in like-for-like terms. The foreign share of sales rose to 26.2 per cent.
