Home Depot reports a good year in 2001: 17 per cent more sales, 18 per cent more profit. Only the like-for-like sales figures remain sluggish

Two-figure rates of growth for sales and profits are announced by Home Depot for the 2001/2002 financial year. According to these results, sales have grown by 17 per cent over the preceding year to US $ 53.6 bn (€ 61.7 bn). The group did not however manage to generate any growth on a comparable basis. Net earnings rose by 18 per cent to US $ 2.6 bn (€ three bn). This key figure shot up by 53 per cent to US $ 710 mio (€ 818 mio) in the last quarter alone. Sales in the final 14 weeks of the financial year were up 29 per cent to US $ 13.5 bn (€ 15.6 bn), which came to a five per cent increase like-for-like.
