Young people in particular want to invest in energy efficiency

Almost half (48 per cent) of Europeans say that their house or their apartment is energy efficient. In the next twelve months, an average of 37 per cent want to continue investing in energy efficiency. That is according to the first quarter survey of the European Home Improvement Monitor. A willingness to invest drops significantly with increasing age. Of those surveyed aged 55 years and over, only 24 per cent were planning such investments. In contrast, this was 39 per cent in the age group 35 to 54 years and 43 per cent among the 18 to 34 year-olds.

In the eleven survey countries, consumers see very different measures as being the most important. For example, the Italians mainly want to improve the insulation on their houses while the Polish mainly want more efficient kitchen appliances, shower heads and toilet flushes. The Germans are particularly interested in new lighting.
