Sales abroad ensure Hornbach a significant plus

Only the non-domestic markets have ensured a notable increase in sales for the German DIY store operator Hornbach in the first quarter (March to May). On the home market, net sales grew by 0.8 per cent to EUR 814.9 mio. Due to the coronavirus regulations and lockdown in winter, like-for-like sales were only maintained with -0.1 per cent.
In the eight countries outside Germany in which the chain is represented, sales increased by 11.3 per cent to EUR 760.9 mio. The foreign portion of sales thus rose from 45.8 to 48.3 per cent. Like-for-like foreign sales net of currency effects gained by 9.5 per cent.
Overall, the Hornbach stores raised their sales compared to the same period last year by 5.6 per cent to EUR 1.5758 bn. Like-for-like sales net of currency effects resulted in an increase of 4.3 per cent.
