Toom is the new number 3 in Germany's DIY store turnover rankings.

The Top 20 German DIY store operators recorded domestic sales totalling EUR 26.024 bn in 2020, an increase of 12.1 per cent (= EUR 2.815 bn) over 2019. The statistics were compiled by the research team at Dähne Verlag for its publication "Statistik Baumarkt + Garten 2021 D-A-CH" (Statistics DIY Retail + Garden Germany-Austria-Switzerland).

The nationwide sales of Hornbach (+21.2 per cent), Rewe (Toom Baumarkt/B 1; +17.5 per cent) and Bauhaus (+14.4 per cent) rose by considerably more than the sector average. Market leader Obi increased its sales in Germany in 2020 by 12.2 per cent (= EUR 500 mio) to EUR 4.6 bn.

Globus and Hela DIY stores delivered a performance that was significantly below the average (+5.1 per cent), while retail outlets of the Hagebau cooperative reported sales slightly below the average (+11.6 per cent).
This trend caused notable changes in the German turnover rankings for the first time in years. Hagebau's retail arm dropped two places to number 5, while Hornbach (number 4) and Toom Baumarkt/B 1 (number 3) each moved up a place.
