In mid-December, Japanese DIY chain Cainz opened the first location of its new next-generation concept in the city of Yoshikawa. The Yoshikawa Minami store has a sales area of 12,300 m² and features a number of innovations in retail technology and store design. For example, registered customers can scan products with the Cainz app while shopping; when they leave the store at the "bag checkout", payment is made automatically using the payment details they have provided. The sales area has stations with a display that recognise spoken language when customers ask for a product and guide them to it. Separate devices are available for ordering products from the online catalogue. In addition, a “Cainz Mobile Store” without staff or cash registers is accessible 24 hours a day.
