If gas were to become scarce, the pet industry would also be hit hard. This has been pointed out by the trade magazine Pet worldwide in a current online report about the current discussion in Germany. In the worst case, the supply of food for the domestic animals could be strongly affected. As early as mid May, Katrin Langner, managing director of the German industry association for pet supplies (IVH), had warned in a press release of such a scenario. In an open letter, the pet trade and pet industry has therefore called on politicians to also ensure supplies for pets if Russia were to turn off the flow of gas. Now, the German pet trade association (ZZF), together with the industry's major trade groups and the IVH, has also issued a statement on the matter, calling for the pet industry to be classified as a critical infrastructure and prioritised in the event of a gas shortage.
