Sales of the French DIY group were half a percentage point up in 2011

The stores belonging to the French DIY retail group Mr. Bricolage achieved joint sales of € 2.3231 bn in 2011. This amounted to 0.5 per cent more than the previous year. The 462 stores under the Mr. Bricolage banner accounted for € 1.7318 bn of the total (+1.7 per cent), while the 140 Briconautes stores recorded sales of € 246.5 mio (-5.1 per cent), and the 37 Catena stores € 41.4 mio (-42.1 per cent). This contrasts with the above-average rates of increase of 7.9 per cent reported by the 264 affiliated dealers who use none of these marketing brands. Moreover, the group also includes the store opened in June 2011 under the name of L’Entrepôt Du Bricolage, which reported sales of € 4.1 mio.The Mr. Bricolage outlets in France saw growth of 1.4 per cent. The main reason for this is that the number of stores rose by eight. In like-for-like terms the marketing channel recorded a minus of 0.7 per cent. The Briconautes stores recorded a like-for-like loss of 0.5 per cent, while Catena was 3.5 per cent down like-for-like. The 18 Mr. Bricolage and Catena stores in the “Dom-Tom” overseas territories reported sales of € 181.1 mio, or 3.0 per cent more than the year before like-for-like. The 60 Mr. Bricolage outlets outside France were able to increase their sales by 3.2 per cent to € 198.6 mio, though this amounted to a minus figure of 3.3 per cent like-for-like. The trend went in two different directions: like-for-like sales in Bulgaria, Serbia and Romania experienced a collapse of 11.8 per cent.In the other countries, however, there was a like-for-like plus of 3.2 per cent. This was principally sustained by developments in Belgium with the addition of seven new stores and in Morocco, where a third store opened in Tangiers in February. Over and above this, Mr. Bricolage is active in Andorra and Uruguay, Mauritius and Madagaskar, where a second store was opened at the beginning of the year.
