Per capita spending on furniture in the EU rose by 0.8 per cent to € 251 in 2004 by comparison with the previous year, according to information from the VDM (Verband der Deutschen Möbelindustrie), the German furniture industry's trade association. The strongest growth was shown by Denmark at 4.1 per cent, followed by Spain at 3.4 per cent, Greece at 3.2 per cent and Portugal at 3.1 per cent. The Netherlands brought up the rear with 0.5 per cent. Austrians spend the most money on furniture annually (€ 362). Per capita spend comes to € 360 in Germany, € 359 in Sweden and € 353 in Denmark. In 2004 the Portuguese spent the least amount of money on furniture at € 100.
