Over the period between February and September 2004 the market for garden tools in Germany contracted by eleven per cent when compared with the same period last year. According to information from market researchers GfK, this happened despite a sales boost of just under two figures for powered tools in the months of August and September. This increase was, however, not able to make up for the 36 per cent downward slide experienced in the water technology segment, which could not compete with the record sales figures notched up during the exceptional summer of 2003.
