The Näpi sawmill at Rakvere in Estonia is where Stora Enso Timber officially opened a new planing line on 26 October. Completed during this summer, the investment came to a total of € 3.8 mio. The planing line, which is integrated into the sawmill, went into production in May already and will reach its annual total capacity of 60 000 m³ during the course of the coming year. Both industry and the timber trade, especially in Estonia, Germany, the Netherlands and Britain, number among the buyers of the planed timber produced at the Näpi works. The goods coming from the sawmill for the most part belong to the Wood-Pax line, the product family created by Stora Enso Timber for the retail trade. They are supplied commercially packed for sale in DIY stores and builders’ merchant outlets. “Our goal – profit-yielding growth – is once more becoming a reality at the Näpi works,” in the words of Peter Kickinger, executive vice president of Stora Enso Timber. “We have managed to double our production volume recently, and nearly half of our production is further processed for the retail sector.”
