The group’s first store is opened in the capital, Sofia

Praktiker, the German DIY retail chain, has opened its first store in Bulgaria. The 7 000 m² outlet is located in the capital, Sofia. It took six months to build, and 90 per cent of the product offer of around 50 000 items is sourced from local manufacturers.
The company is basing its plans on a high level of need for renovation and home improvement, since 96 per cent of Bulgarian households actually own their property. Consequently the emphasis in the product assortment is on the categories of building materials, tools and machinery, plus products for the areas of plumbing and decoration. As we have previously reported, Praktiker intends to be represented by a total of seven stores in Bulgaria within the next few years. The country has a population of approximately eight million.
