France: Forecast for the window market 2003

21.11.2002

Market researchers Interconnection of Vienna are forecasting slight growth for the French window market in 2003. There are, however, strong fluctuations within the individual departments.
About three quarters of all windows are installed during the process of renovating buildings. This is not least due to a reduction of value-added tax to 5.5 per cent on home improvements, which also applies to doors, protection against the sun and certain installation work. Growth of about two per cent is expected for this segment overall in the year 2003. This amounts to a volume of 8.256 mio window units. In the year 2002 about 62 per cent of all the replacement windows that were sold went to the single-family home segment.
The forecast for the new-build segment in the year 2003 comes to a sales volume of 2.369 window units. About 61 per cent of these will go to single-family homes.
