The volume of retail sales in the eurozone rose by 1.4 per cent in July 2002 over the same month the year before. The increase amounts to 2.3 per cent in all 15 EU countries, according to a report from Eurostat. However, there is a wide spread between –4.5 per cent for Portugal at the bottom of the table and growth of 8.1 per cent for Spain, the month’s best performer.
