Obi holds on to its top spot in Germany. The DIY store operator was able to increase its sales in Germany in the year 2020 by 12.2 per cent to EUR 4.6 bn. In terms of percentage growth, Obi lies somewhat over the average of the top 20 DIY store operators in Germany. These figures have been established for the "Statistik Baumarkt + Garten 2021" (in German) from the Dähne Verlag publishing house which is out at the end of May.Above-average growth has been shown by Bauhaus and Hornbach. Bauhaus has increased sales by 14.4 per cent (third place in rate of increase) to EUR 4.45 bn, Hornbach even by 21.2 per cent (first place in rate of increase) to EUR 3.15 bn. That is a growth rate which is almost twice as high as the top 20 DIY store operators in Germany on average. Also the DIY sales channels Toom and B1 in the Rewe trading group showed above-average growth in 2020 and raised their sales by 17.5 per cent to EUR 3.236 bn. They are thus just behind Hornbach at second place in percentage growth.Slightly below average sales figures for Germany last year compared with the 20 largest German DIY store operators were reported by Hagebau's retail trade with its two sales channels Hagebaumarkt and Werkers Welt. Overall, their sales grew in 2020 by 11.6 per cent to EUR 3.093 bn. The German sales by Globus Baumarkt/Hela also showed below-average development in 2020: they rose by 5.1 per cent to EUR 1.846 bn.In 2020, the top 20 German DIY store operators made overall sales of EUR 26.024 bn at home and thus 12.1 per cent more than in the year 2019. As the companies achieved very different growth rates - see above - there were also significant shifts in the German sales ranking for the first time in years: Hagebau's retail trade lost two positions and now sits at rank 5. In contrast, Hornbach (rank 4) and Toom/B 1 (rank 3) have each moved up one place."Statistik Baumarkt + Garten 2021" (in German) can be ordered at www.daehne.com/statistik-baumarkt-garten-2021
