The Swedish company Välinge is one of the worldwide big players on the market for floorings. However, the production of floorings is one of its business fields, but not its most important. The core business at Välinge is the development of innovative technologies for the flooring industry. These systems are made available to more than 260 floor producers around the world in a licence procedure, including many major brands in the industry.
One of the best known is the 5G fold down technology which was introduced in 2004. Installing the floor panels by one person, one pair of hands and a single movement - this is the formula that sums up the customer benefit.
Välinge has only recently introduced a further development of the 5G installation system: 5G Dry. As the name suggests, this system focuses on optimising water resistance. In particular, it is targeted at strengthening the competitiveness of wooden floorings and laminate compared to resilient floorings, because it prevents water from penetrating through the joint and so provides significantly lower swelling when floorings on a wooden basis become wet. 5G Dry is already being used on the Woodura floorings with reinforced surface which were developed by Välinge itself.
The customer benefit of the underlying idea of all Välinge systems is defined by Andreas Nilsson, key account manager at Välinge Innovation Sweden AB, under two aspects: "The fold down installation technology makes installation for the DIYer easier and makes installation for professionals faster, so they can save costs." Andreas Nilsson knows what he's talking about because one of his tasks is to check the reviews that customers post on the Internet when they report about their experiences with floorings and floor installation.
His experience: consumers go to the DIY store and choose the floor based on design and functionality for their requirements. Nowadays, they expect installation to be easy. "Consumers write positive reviews about nice designs, when everything goes as planned," Andreas Nilsson remarks. "But when you view the negative comments on the web, a majority is complaining about installation.
