The Global DIY Lifetime Award 2018 goes to Damien Delaplanque who was CEO at Groupe Adeo until last year. The prize will be awarded on 13 June 2018 as part of the Global DIY Summit in Barcelona. It is presented by the European DIY retail and manufacturer associations Edra/Ghin and Fediyma.
Delaplanque began his career working as a department manager in a Leroy Merlin store in 1979 at the French DIY chain Leroy Merlin, from which Adeo emerged. A year later he became store manager of a 1 500 m² store in Granges Les Valence in southern France, later taking over a 6 000 m² store in St. Genevieve des Bois, near Paris. In 1993, he was appointed CEO of Leroy Merlin and in 2005 CEO of Groupe Adeo, which was founded because various subsidiaries were added in France and abroad.
Damien Deleplanque mainly focuses on the subject of human resources. He created and launched the so-called "Management Process Vision"; this method is credited to have been one of the most important foundations that has brought much success to ADEO, and has paved its path to become the leading DIY store operator in Europe and the third largest around the world with activities in twelve countries. Sales rose from EUR 1.7 bn to almost EUR 22 bn between 1994 and 2017.
