Buying spree in Wyevale garden centres adversely affected after record spring sales

The British Wyevale garden centres increased sales in the first six months of 2002 over the same period in 2001 by 3.7 per cent to £ 101.6 mio (€ 161.6 mio), which amounts to a 1.7 per cent increase like-for-like. This key figure then rose to 2.3 per cent over the following ten weeks to 8 September. The months of March and April brought record garden centre sales. However, the group was disappointed by the figures in May and June, which were adversely affected by the bad weather, the Queen’s jubilee celebrations and the football World Cup.
