Hornbach, the third largest DIY chain in Germany, announced at the start of the new financial year on 1 March 2024, Radu Oniga will take over as Country Managing Director of Hornbach in Romania. He succeeds Mugurel-Horia Rusu, who has held the position since 2005. Hornbach currently operates nine DIY and garden centres in Romania with drive-in as well as the online shop at hornbach.ro

Born in Romania, Radu Oniga studied business administration at the University of Bucharest. He then worked as a buyer for non-food products in the food retail sector. In 2006, he joined Hornbach as a purchasing employee (merchant) for the wood, building materials and prefabricated building components product area. In 2017, the 43-year-old also took over the regional management of e-business and, in this role, played a key role in developing the Romanian web shop and digitalising the business model. "With his many years of experience, Radu Oniga will continue the successful growth in Romania," says Jan Hornbach, member of the Board of Management at Hornbach Baumarkt AG and responsible for the European national companies.

Mugurel-Horia Rusu, whose career began at Hornbach in Austria in 1996, played a key role in establishing the Romanian national company. Since the opening of the first Romanian store in Bucharest in 2007, he has managed the business there. Following the handover of responsibility to Radu Oniga, Mugurel-Horia Rusu will continue to support the Hornbach Group with his expertise in an advisory capacity. "For more than 18 years, Mugurel-Horia Rusu was a formative manager for the colleagues in our national company. He was very active in operations and established Hornbach as the number 1 for projects in Romania as well", says Jan Hornbach.
