The Global DIY Summit has set a new attendance record: more than 1 100 representatives of the international DIY and garden sector are gathering in Barcelona today and tomorrow, 13 and 14 June 2018, for the industry's annual conference. Around 300 trade delegates are in attendance, and top management teams from both retail and manufacturing companies are present. More than 300 participants joined a very interesting store tour yesterday, taking in five different locations. The organisers, the European retailing and manufacturing associations Edra/Ghin and Fediyma, have evoked a spirit of cooperation that is not self-evident in other sectors of the economy and that they want to advance through this networking event at the highest international level. "We made a strategic decision: let's start working together," said Edra president Sergio Giroldi, CEO of Obi, at a press conference yesterday. In an era of online trade and increasing regulation of the markets, the sector can only meet consumer demands by cooperation between retailers and manufacturers. "The customer is back in a leading position - as the queen and the king," said Giroldi, outlining the situation as he saw it. Fediyma president Reinhard Wolff commented that sectors must offer consumers a "new customer journey" in view of their stronger position.
