The sales of the ten largest German DIY store operators rose in 2019 by a total of 4.4 per cent to a joint EUR 31.762 bn, and this is despite the fact that there was one location less at the end of the year, namely 3 128. These are the cumulative sales achieved at home and abroad. These preliminary figures have been established by the editorial team of the trade journal diy for its annual DIY store statistics.
The positive sales development is primarily due to the above-average strong development of the "big three" on the Germany market: Obi grew by 6.5 percent, Bauhaus 4.5 per cent and Hornbach 7.4 per cent.
The Statistik Baumarkt + Garten D-A-CH 2020 (Statistics DIY retail + Garden Germany-Austria-Switzerland) will be out at the end of May. Over 140 pages it summarises (in German) all the important data about the German DIY store and garden centre operators. In particular the sales, retail space and location statistics of the top 20 are seen in the industry as basis of market estimations.
