In fiscal 2020/21, the German DIY store chain Hornbach doubled its online sales including click & collect. Online business accounted for around 17 per cent of overall turnover. This was attributable among other things to click & collect continuing to be permitted for private customers even during the temporary closures, it was stated at the group's annual results press conference.
"Our interconnected retail strategy, combined with the high level of commitment of our employees, was crucially important for the extremely positive overall business trend and our progress compared with the sector. The lockdown phases have shown how important it is to have stationary retail and e-commerce closely intermeshed," said Erich Harsch, board chairman of Hornbach Baumarkt AG.
As already reported, the sales of the Hornbach stores increased in 2020/2021 (1 March 2020 to 28 February 2021) by 15.6 per cent to EUR 5.117 bn. Growth of 14.7 per cent in like-for-like sales net of currency items was the highest figure achieved by the Hornbach stores since the company entered the stock market in 1993.
